Miscreants cut over 200 tea plants at Rupai Tea Estate

 DOOMDOOMA, Aug 13 - Tension prevailed at Rupai Tea Estate here after unidentified miscreants cut over 200 tea plants at Section-1 of the tea estate, situated under Baghjan Police Station of Doomdooma circle in Tinsukia district last night.

According to the police, a gang of over 50 green tea leaf thieves entered Section-1 of the garden to steal tea leaves. But, when the chowkidars of the garden challenged them, the thieves attacked the chowkidars. The latter escaped from the scene and informed the manager about the incident. The manager immediately informed the police. When the police arrived at the garden, the thieves hid themselves behind the tea bushes taking advantage of the darkness. When the police party returned, the thieves cut down over 200 matured tea and Sirish plants at Section- 1 of the garden. In the morning, when the labourers came to pluck tea leaves, the incident came to light. The incident has infuriated the labourers and tension prevailed in the garden since morning.
