Appeal for peace in Karbi Anglong

 DIPHU, Aug 12 – Avinash Pande, secretary, All India Congress Committee (AICC) who was recently appointed as in charge of Assam, arrived at Diphu on Saturday to take stock of present security situation of Karbi Anglong.

Pande at first discussed the prevailing situation of the district with the Karbi Anglong Congress leaders and later joined the peace mission meeting held at Rajiv Bhavan, Diphu.

Addressing the peace mission meeting, Pande emphasised on the need of peace building in the district. He said, “Congress is always for peace, unity and progress. Congress always stands for the needy and weaker sections”. Accordingly, the grievances of the people would be taken up with utmost seriousness and the Congress chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi will be apprised of the problems of the people. Meanwhile, he urged the people to maintain peace and tranquility in the district.

In his speech, the APCC president, Bhubaneswar Kalita also stressed on peace building in the area. He reiterated that a panel will be formed and through the panel the grievances of the hill district will be sorted out. Meanwhile, he also urged the people to maintain peace and harmony in the district.

Later, a memorandum was submitted to the Congress chairperson, Sonia Gandhi by the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) through the AICC secretary and incharge of Assam, Avinash Pande demanding an autonomous State for the people of Karbi Anglong.
