Sunrise trounce GTC

 GUWAHATI, Aug 12 – Displaying a better game, Sunrise Athletic Club handed a 3-1 drubbing to Gauhati Town Club (GTC) in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Super Division Football League at the Nehru Stadium here today.

It was a fast-paced encounter on a slippery ground. With some drastic changes in the team, Town Club today put up a spirited show and forced the opponent to fall back on several occasion.

Sunrise also brought in some new players in their frontline. Like the previous match their striking force did a wonderful job and tore apart the Town defence with some spirited and well planned moves.

Sunrise’s Nigerian striker Camara drew first blood in the 38th minute with a solo effort. Dribbling the ball for around 10 yards he drove home from top of the box (1-0).

After the break, Town tried to get their act together and troubled the Sunrise defence from both the wings. Rahul Boro made it 1-1 in the 59th minute with a tricky header. He suddenly got the ball in a melee and utilised the opportunity.

After the equaliser, the Sunrise boys woke up immediately and romped into attack mode vigorously. They got the result in the 75th minute when Camara made it 2-1. John Madu set the ball for Camara with a defence splitting pass and the later beat the Town goalkeeper Prasenjit Debnath with a gentle push.

The best goal of the match was scored in the 84th minute. Sayao Thankul made it 3-1 in favour of Sunrise with a brilliant goal. Receiving the ball from Camara, Sayao dribbled past at least three Town defenders and finally beat the opponent custodian with a push at the far post keeping his cool.

A Div: Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Club won a vital match against Abitani in the A Division League.

Requiring a win to stay in A Division, SAI rallied to beat Abutani 2-1. Henry K Oja put Abutani ahead in the 7th minute.

For SAI, Dwiden Giri Basumatary levelled the issue in the 25th minute. Finally, Hirokjyoti Moran made it 2-1 for SAI in the 84th minute.
