Call to preserve Bezbaroa’s Odisha house
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, Aug 12 – Assam Governor JB Patnaik has stressed the need for preserving the residence of Lakshminath Bezbaroa at Sambalpur in Orissa as a cultural centre where research of Oriya and Assamese literature can take place.

Patnaik recently visited the office of the Revenue Inspector located at Nelson Mandela Chowk, Sambalpur, which was the home of Sahityarathi Bezbaroa at one point of time. Patnaik described Bezbaroa as the father of modern Assamese literature and said that his residence should be revived as a cultural centre.

The Governor said that the Orissa Government has agreed to the Assam Government’s proposal for developing the residence of Bezbaroa as a cultural centre, but a court case on the plot of land delayed the process. He appealed to the litigant to cooperate so that the dreams of the people of Assam could be fulfilled, said a Raj Bhawan press release.
