GUWAHATI, Aug 12 – The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today flayed the State Government for being unable to initiate confidence building measures for those affected by the ethnic clashes in the BTAD areas.
AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta while speaking to mediapersons also alleged that the relief camps and the affected areas of Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts still lack adequate security personnel, which is one of the reasons why people are still reluctant to go back to their villages.
Members of the AGP visited the trouble-torn districts of the BTAD areas and took stock of a number of relief camps in all the affected districts.
“Among others in the relief camps, there was Rashid Ahmed, an active member of Assam agitation,” Mahanta said.
He also criticized the Government for not taking opposition parties into confidence.
“The Government should have taken certain sections into confidence, especially the opposition parties, to deal with the situation effectively. Even after so many lives were lost, the Government did not consider holding of an all-party meet. Even ABSU had alleged indifferent attitude of the Government, which is unfortunate,” the two-time former Chief Minister said, adding that the Government would have done well to form peace committees in the affected areas.
