Noted film director Atul Bordoloi passes away

 DERGAON, Aug 11 – Noted Assamese film director Atul Bordoloi died last night at Gauhati Medical College Hospital due to a cardiac arrest. He was 64.

Born in 1937 at Tarajan, Jorhat, late Bordoloi had settled permanantly at Dergaon since 1985. He started his career as film director in Aparajeyo, which directed along with Phani Talukdar, Munin Bayan and Gauri Barman. The film was released on May 6, 1970. Later he went on to direct Banaria Phool in 1973, Anutap in 1973, Kallol in 1978, Megh in 1979, Dristi, Grahan, Chianar, etc., besides several documentaries and TV serials.

He received the National Award for Best Regional Film for his film Kallol. He continued with his works till his death with noted dramatist Sapoonjyoti Thakur assisting him. Late Bordoloi also served as a sub-editor with the Assamese daily Natun Asomiya.

He leaves behind his wife, a son along with a host of well-wishers.

His death was widely mourned by several organisations like Dergaon Sahitya Sabha, Dergaon Natya Charcha Kendra, etc.
