TEZPUR, Aug 10 - In what can be described as an important development towards securing child rights, the Centre for Inclusive Development, Tezpur University, has launched a Post Graduate Diploma in Child Rights & Governance in partnership with UNICEF-Assam. Inaugurating the diploma programme on Tuesday, the Vice Chancellor of the university said that it would immensely help in solving the real problems facing the society in terms of violation of child rights.
Terming the violation of child rights as a social menace, the Vice Chancellor hoped that the programme would produce professionals who would help bring about a paradigm shift in dealing with children in the society.
Attending the inauguration session, Foroogh Foyouzat, Chief of Field Services, UNICEF-Delhi, thanked the Tezpur University on behalf of UNICEF for taking the initiative in educating the society about protecting child rights. She assured of all help and cooperation from UNICEF in making the programme not only a success, but also a catalyst to meaningfully impact the society in empowering the child, as distinctly set by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989.
Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri termed the diploma programme the need of the hour to overcome the shortage of professional personnel in this area.
