Ukhrul child welfare body members quit
IMPHAL, Aug 10 – Members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Ukhrul resigned from their respective posts alleging indifferent attitude of G Satyabati, Director of Social Welfare Department in rescue of 26 Manipuri children from Kerala.

In May last year, 26 children from Manipur were rescued and kept under the protection of CWC Ernakulam (Kerala) which requested to Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA) to trace out the parents of the children. Subsequently, KELSA wrote to its Manipur counterpart on March 28 this year to trace out the relatives of the 26 children and help KELSA to send them back to their native houses.

“The Director (Social Welfare Department) reportedly sent two persons to Kerala overriding the role of CWC, Ukhrul,” says a press note jointly signed by Gajendra Prasad Monahty (Chairperson), Ringyuichon Vashum (Member Secretary), Silla J Konghay and Janeth Hungyo (members) of CWC Ukhrul. “When the CWC Ernakulam called the CWC Ukhrul to identify the two persons, we said we don’t have any knowledge about the two persons as we’re not informed at all. As a result, CWC Ernakulam refused to hand over the children to those two persons.”
