|2 trucks transporting cattle seized|
JORABAT, Aug 9 - Acting on a tip-off, Khetri police seized a truck transporting cattle at Khetri, while Sonapur police seized another such truck on National Highway-37 this afternoon. Altogether 36 bovines were rescued from the two vehicles.
According to police sources, two trucks believed to be used in illegal transportation of cattle were kept hidden at an isolated place at Khetri, waiting to be driven away under the cover of darkness. Upon receiving information, Khetri police rushed to the spot and seized one of those trucks (AS 02AC 1154) and rescued 18 bovines from it. However, the driver and the helper of the seized truck were able to flee from the scene, while the other truck managed to escape.
Later, Sonapur police intercepted the fleeing truck (AS 01DD 9857) and detained the driver and the helper, rescuing another 18 bovines from it.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the cattle were brought from Nagaon’s Samaguri and were being taken to Meghalaya.
