Awareness meet on illicit liquor

 SILCHAR, Aug 8 - As a part of the ongoing efforts to spread awareness against illicit liquor, Cachar district Excise department on Thursday organised an awareness meeting at Rabindra Pathagar club in Cachar.

Participating in the meeting, State Minister of Excise Parimal Suklabaidya said that officials of Excise and Forest departments must work in tandem to maintain a vigil on rhino poachers in Kaziranga.

A work in cohesion can help the Forest department to trace and punish the poachers and others who are involved in the crime," the Minister said.

He urged the locals to quit the habit of liquor consumption and highlighted the measures taken by the Government to provide alternative economic avenues to those engaged in preparing the illicit commodity.

Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, Superintendent of Excise, Cachar Sunil Sinha, DFO Sunny Deo Chaudhury, Dr Prasenjit Ghosh, psychiatrist of Silchar Medical College and Hospital also attended the meeting and delivered relevant speeches to encourage the locals to shun habits of liquor consumption and start a better and healthier lifestyle.
