JORHAT, Aug 8 - The newly-established District Transport Office in Majuli on Wednesday issued the first registration card of a vehicle to the official car of the Deputy Commissioner of the Brahmaputra island district.

A district administration official told The Assam Tribune that the registration card of the Deputy Commissioner’s vehicle was handed over to Majuli DC Debaprasad Misra by DTO (in-charge) Apurba Kumar Das at the latter’s office at Kamalabari. The number allotted to the vehicle is AS-29-0001. The State Transport department has allotted district code AS-29 to Majuli.

Das also handed over the registration card of the second official vehicle allotted to the Deputy Commissioner for protocol purpose to Additional Deputy Commissioner Chinmoy Nath. Both the vehicles – Mahindra SUV 500 – are new. The official said the number allotted to the second vehicle is AS-29-0002.

ADC Noren Das, Majuli Revenue Circle Officer Ajit Sarmah, Assistant Commissioner Himadri Bora and District Information and Public Relations Officer (in-charge) Rajendra Baruah attended the brief function.

It may be mentioned here that the DTO office in Majuli became fully functional about a fortnight ago during the visit of Transport Commissioner Virendra Mittal, who launched the Vahan Suvidha app required to carry out the process of registration of vehicles and issuing learner’s and regular driving licences to eligible applicants.
