AIZAWL, Aug 8 - The Mizoram State Commission for Women has condemned the murder of a 52-year-old woman at Suangpuilawn village in Aizawl district.
The victim identified as Hmingthanzuali was brutally killed by her neighbour at her residence on August 3. In a statement issued today, the commission said that Hmingthanzuali was found lying unconscious on her bed with multiple injuries on her body.
“Though she was rushed to Aizawl Civil Hospital, she is believed to have died on her way to the hospital,” the statement said. The statement further said that the prime accused, Laldinpuia (25) was arrested by the police, and that he has confessed to the crime.
The stick, which was used in the crime, has been recovered by the police from the place where the accused had concealed it.
“The Mizoram State Commission for Women demands maximum punishment for the murderer,” the statement said. Police sources said the accused has admitted to have committed the murder under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to the accused, there was no motive behind the murder. The victim and the accused lived in the same neighbourhood. The woman used to live alone and ran a grocery shop attached to her home.
Enraged by the murder, a mob attacked the house of the accused and damaged it a few days ago.
