Measures to control Dimow river demanded
Correspondent
SILAPATHAR, Aug 2 – More than 20 villages of Silasuti GP and Dimow GP are still faced with lack of basic amenities like proper road communication, medical facilities, drinking water facilities, agricultural facilities etc. The families of the farmers are also struggling with flood and erosion problems from year to year.

A majority of the population is dependant on agriculture and practice farming with old methods. More than 80 per cent of the farmers live below poverty line (BPL) mainly due to the constant flood and erosion.

Continuous rains in hilly as well as the plains have increased the water level of Dimow river. The river has changed its direction this year and flooded the riverine villages of Silasuti GP like Bhagawan Mising gaon, Bhagawan Miligaon etc.

The flood water and erosion of Dimow river has destroyed the cultivable land of more than 100 families of the area. Flood and erosion have also washed away the fisheries of several families.

It is unfortunate that The Water Resources Department has not taken any measures to control the Dimow river. The river has become a curse for the local population. The local people have constructed bamboo spur to control the river.

The affected families have therefore demanded suitable measures to protect them from flood and erosion.
