SILCHAR, Aug 1 - Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar became the first COVID-19 patient in the Barak Valley to undergo plasma therapy, which began at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Friday. Laskar is undergoing treatment at the COVID ward of the hospital and he is the first person in the Barak Valley to undergo plasma therapy, said SMCH Principal Dr Babul Kumar Bezbaruah.

Laskar, who is a BJP MLA from the Sonai constituency, tested positive on July 26.

“Though we are waiting for the installation of the plasma machine on August 3, we have given him the therapy by getting plasma from Guwahati. He is the first patient in Barak Valley to be given the plasma treatment at the hospital,” Dr Bezbaruah said.

Soon after he was tested positive, Laskar had made an appeal through a Facebook post to all those who have came into contact with him recently to go for isolation and get tested for COVID-19.
