Women achievers honoured

 GUWAHATI, April 29 - The FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) North East, the exclusive women’s wing of the apex business body, had its ninth annual session at a city hotel today with Governor PB Acharya as the chief guest.

The event was marked with FLO’s annual honouring of women achievers and change of guard ceremony. FLO North East chairperson Joyshree Das Verma highlighted and presented the chapter’s performance for the year 2015-16.

“The year saw achievements of milestones in successful launches of projects related to women empowerment, start of free training of women in non-traditional sectors like driving, launch of FLO women director initiative and its first training programme which had 40 participants, including senior Assam Government women employees. Swayam, the mentorship cell for budding women entrepreneurs, has gained momentum with conversions besides a whole lot of initiatives which are under way,” she said.

The evening saw the following women honoured for their achievements – Jnanada Kakoti, Monisha Behal, Dr Sanjukta Parashar, Daisy Christine from Meghalaya, and NG Bimolata Devi from Manipur. All the awardees were honoured in the presence of Governor Acharya. Parashar could not attend the event due to work commitments.

The Governor during his keynote address shared his experiences on women empowerment and other issues that need to be highlighted and that can be taken care of by women.

The State Bank of India is partnering with FLO and has been playing an active part in facilitation of SME finance.

Verma apprised the gathering that FLO was committed towards its ‘Vision of Changing lives – Women Empowering Women’ and its mission of entrepreneurship development.

The highlight of her tenure was the successful hosting of ‘FLO National level mega Interstate Meet’ which saw 200-plus high-powered women delegates (pan-India FLO members) coming to Guwahati and Kaziranga for four days.

In the change of guard ceremony, the current chairperson handed over the baton to Indrani Deb, who is taking over as the chairperson FLO North East 2016-17 with Prabidita Bharati as senior vice chairperson and Alakananda Das as vice chairperson.
