GUWAHATI, April 29 – The Water Resource Department (WRD) of the State is undertaking repairs of 43 breaches in the dykes to prevent flooding of countryside by the floodwaters of the rivers.
According to official sources, the State Government has sanctioned an amount of around Rs 33.22 crore to close the breaches under 20 schemes. Works to close the breaches are under progress, said the sources.
The list includes the two breaches of the Pagladiya dyke, one breach each of the Mora Pagladiya and Nadla channel of the Mora Pagladiya in Nalbari district, one breach each of the Aie dyke in Bongaigaon district, Golandi dyke in Baksa district.
It also includes the four breaches of the Ronganadi dyke, five breaches in the Kakoidyke, three breaches in the Singra dyke and one breach in the Dorpang dyke in, Lakhimpur district. In Dhemaji district, the Kumatia dyke has the highest number of 11 breaches, while in Sonitpur each of the the Brhamajan and the Brahmaputra has one breach and Gabharu and Dudhnoi dykes in the Goalpara district have one breach each.
In addition, there are seven breaches I n the dykes built by the Panchayats in different parts of the State and there are two old breaches in the dykes, said the sources.
