Muivah to visit native village after 40 years

 IMPHAL, April 29 – Naga militant group NSCN (IM) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah will visit his native Somdal village in Manipur’s Tangkhul community dominated Ukhrul district, about 100 km north of the State capital next month after nearly 40 years.

 Hectic preparations are on for a public reception of the militant leader at the Ukhrul district headquarters, about 84 km north of Imphal, a source from the hill town said. “A public reception will be held at the Tangkhul Naga Long ground here on May 8,” a source from Ukhrul said today.

Though it couldn’t be confirmed when the militant leader will be arriving at Somdal, the Guwahati edition of a Kolkata-based newspaper on Wednesday reported that he will drive from Dimapur on May 3 after coming back from New Delhi on May 1.

The 75-year-old leader Muivah is likely to have consultations with the leaders Naga organizations from other Naga-inhabited districts such as Chandel and Tamenglong besides his native Ukhrul during the homecoming.
