NAGAON, April 26 – The Nagaon district unit of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) has demanded the arrest of Rupahihat MLA Mujibur Rahman. The AAMSU has alleged that Rahman was involved in misappropriating lakhs of rupees of the local area development fund by presenting false documents. It was also alleged that construction committee member Fakhrul Haque and technical member Safiqul Islam Mahmud are also hands in glove with Rahman. A number of cases bearing numbers 340-14/09/2014, 392-17/09/2014 and 399-18/10/2014 are registered against them at Juria PS.

One case was registered against them in Gauhati High Court. The three had prayed for anticipatory bail but their bail plea was rejected by the high court.

In a statement issued to the press, president of the students’ body Abdul Rahim and its general secretaries Abdul Noor and Ashikur Rahman through a memorandum to the Speaker of the Assembly and the DGP and IG have demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment to the three accused. Otherwise, the AAMSU has threatened to go for an agitation and said that the Government will be responsible for the deterioration of law and order, if any.
