5 arrested for assault on alleged ‘child lifters’

 GAURIPUR, April 24 - Mahadev Biswas of Golokganj Duttapara area and Krishna Bhowmik of Dispur, Guwahati while going to Golokganj from Rupshi on foot on the night of April 23 at about 9-30 pm along the NH 31 met with an untoward incident at Gaibazar under Gauripur police station. A group of people were sitting on the railway track along the NH 31 at Gaibazar and saw the innocent Mahadev and Krishna and detained them as suspected child lifters and a scuffle ensued.

On receipt of information, a team of police of Gauripur PS headed by O/C Satyajit Barthakur arrived at the site and tried to rescue the innocent persons. The irritated people attacked the police personnel. In the scuffle, O/C Barthakur and Paragjyoti Chaudhury, a constable were injured. Mahadev Biswas lodged an FIR at the Gauripur PS and accordingly police arrested Usuf Ali (22), s/o Askhel Ali of Naidergaon, Saiful Ali (30), s/o Hussain Ali of Bidyapara Bhatigaon, Rockybul Haque (24), s/o Ainal Haque of Poragaon, Nazrul Haque (32), s/o Late Abdul Haque, Ainal Haque (30), s/o Amzad Ali of Madhusaulmari Pt I and Simlakandi respectively were arrested and a case No. 4441/2019 was registered against them, informed the second officer Bidhan Sing Basumatary.

The incident on the night of Lok Sabha polls has caused great concern among the people of the area who condemned the attack on the innocent persons while they were going to their homes on foot as there were no vehicles for transport.
