Five killed in Tezpur mishaps

 TEZPUR, April 21 – As many as five persons lost their lives today in Sonitpur district in separate incidents.

Three minor girls were drowned in Gelapukhuri at 2 No Jarasbari under Gingia Police Station where they had gone to bathe around 1 pm today. The girls were identified as Kabita Mahar, Dipali Mahar and Sumani Mahar of the same village.

In another incident, prominent businessman Shashi Paul was killed after being knocked down by a vehicle near the DTO office here this morning.

It needs mention that Paul started some sort of an industrial revolution in the district during the eighties by launching a biscuit factory naming the brand ‘Madhabi Biscuit’, and providing employment to many jobless people.

In yet another incident, Payal Das, a degree student of Tezpur College died on the spot when her scooty was hit by a bus at Kursomtola under Jamuguri PS this afternoon.
