Musical soirée in honour of Syamapada Sarma|
GUWAHATI, April 20 - Satabdi Argha, a musical soirée was organised recently at Sudmersen Hall, Cotton College here as part of the birth centenary celebration of the late Syamapada Sarma, a pioneering industrialist, cultural enthusiast, social worker and stage actor, by his family, friends and admirers, said a press release today.
Prof Upendranath Sarma, a distinguished scholar and former head of the Department of English, Cotton College, while inaugurating the event, spoke on the multifaceted personality and rare achievements and contributions of the late Sarma.
Several artistes of repute including Sudakshina Sarma, Rishiraj Sarma, Mridula Das, Anindita Pal, Rupam Bhuyan, Parveen Ahmed, Taniya Tarannam, Shivangshu Parashar and young Tushar Bhuyan presented songs, while Dr Lopamudra Das and her team performed Ojapali.
Meghna Das, Jogen Basumatary and Kamal Sarma presented Kathak, saxophone and accordion recitals respectively. A chorus was presented by the tiny tots of Sparsh, RG Baruah Road branch under the supervision of Manobi Deka, the Principal of the school. Seven-year-old Yasodhara Pathak of the same school performed Bharat Natyam.
While the event was compered by Basundhara Choudhuri and Nibir Mriduta Konwar, BA final year students of Cotton College, the moderation was done by Dr Gautam Sarma, Head of the Department of English, Cotton College. Dr Amal Kr Sarma, the eldest son of the late Syamapada Sarma offered the vote of thanks.
