DERGAON, April 20 – With the Bihu festivity on in the State, the occasion was celebrated at Bongalgaon here with a difference. The newly-formed nature organisation Beethika of the area in association with leading nature organisation Aashray of Dergaon, started a mass plantation drive on Sunday.
The programme began with the ceremonial planting of two saplings at the main entrance of Bongalgaon Bar Namghar by two senior citizens of Bongalgaon – Sarulora Barua and Sonmanuh Hazarika.
Earlier, the inaugural speech was delivered by the president of Beethika, Murulidhar Goswami and the inaugural session was moderated by Poran Goswami, secretary of Beethika. An oath taking ceremony to look after the saplings as well as nature was also held. This was followed by a street play on nature conservation which was presented by the children of Sampriti Moina Parijat under the direction of theatre activist Saponjyoti Thakur.
After this, plantation of saplings was carried out at several places along the NH-37. According to Poran Goswami the plantation programme will continue during this season.
