No reason to panic on NRC, says minister
Correspondent
SILCHAR, April 20 – At a time when the people in the State are largely pensive regarding the enrolment procedures with reference to the National Register of Citizens (NRC), newly inducted Border Area Development Minister Girindra Mallik has said that there is no reason to panic since the data enumerated in the legacy data has a chronological sequence, despite minimal errors.

Quoting Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s claim of ‘no Bangladeshis in the State’, Mallik said that the people must not feel perturbed about the NRC issue. The Chief Minister will take positive steps towards it, he asserted.

Addressing a meeting organized by the Barak Valley Patni Parishad here on Sunday to felicitate the Border Area Development Minister, Mallik underscored the fact that there is need for generating more awareness on the NRC among the people.

Blaming the erstwhile NDA government for not looking after the development of the scheduled castes, Mallik said that the present Congress government in the State is focused on providing better facilities to the people belonging to the SC community. “The Government is eager to give more benefits to the people belonging to the scheduled caste community,” the minister maintained.
