GUWAHATI, April 20 – The executive committee meeting of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee was held today at the Rajiv Bhawan here under the presidentship of Mridula Saharia, president, Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.

The meet was attended by Haren Das, i/c administration and organisation, APCC and Sailen Bora, general secretary, APCC besides all other office bearers of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.

Addressing the gathering, Saharia extended Rongali Bihu greetings and dwelt at length on the position of women in the backdrop of changing socio-economic situation. She observed that women were becoming more economically empowered by forming Self Help Groups but there was still much to be done for the emancipation of women.

“But Self Help Groups and NGOs should further be strengthened so that the society gets more women entrepreneurs,” she stressed adding that the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee will fight for 50% women reservation in the forthcoming 2016 Assembly elections.

It needs to be mentioned here that as directed by AIMC president Sobha Ojha, the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee will conduct a survey and find out at least 25 women candidates eligible for the candidature of 2016 Assembly elections. Candidature would be given to women who are dedicated, hard working and active, irrespective of any reference from anyone.

On the other hand, speaking on the occasion, Haren Das said that it is time now to get ready for the coming Assembly election. “There is hardly any time left for the next Assembly election. Therefore, we all must gear up and work dedicatedly for the organization,” he mentioned pointing out that all members of the party must learn from their mistakes and work towards making the Congress party strong so that it wins majority seats in 2016.
