TURA, April 16 - A devastating storm on Monday morning damaged close to 80 houses, as per reports received from officials in the North Garo Hills district.
“The Kharkutta C&RD block was largely unaffected, but Resubelpara and Bajengdoba were hit. We are currently providing relief materials like rations and temporary shelter,” said Deputy Commissioner of the North Garo Hills district, SC Sadhu.
According to district officials, about 25 households were affected in the Bajengdoba area. At Resubelpara, about 45-50 houses were partially or fully damaged,” said the DC.
Complete reports are yet to come in due to remoteness of some villages affected by the storm. “Immediately after the storm subsided, people went back to rebuilding their houses. We are providing them interim relief to get their lives back on track,” added Sadhu.
The early morning storm left a trail of destruction throughout the State with the Jaintia Hills, Khasi Hills and North Garo Hills bearing the brunt of the damage. No human casualties were however reported from any of the areas hit by the storm.
