Baksa school attends national meet on World Environment Day theme|
MUSHALPUR, April 16 - Modern English School Eco Club, Nikashi in Baksa under the district nodal agency Green Environment Task Force (GETF) and the State nodal agency of National Green Corps, Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council attended a national-level meeting at the Indira Paryavaran Bhawan of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, EE Division, Government of India, New Delhi on April 13.
The meeting held to discuss ideas related to celebration of World Environment Day on June 5 and to make plastic-free “Green schools/colleges”, was chaired by Dr A Senthil Vel, Adviser of the Ministry. As India is the global host of the World Environment Day this year on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” various ideas were shared by representatives of eco-clubs of various States with the officials of State Forest Departments, Environment Departments, Education Departments, Indian environment scientists and environment experts from the American Embassy in New Delhi on plastic free schools/colleges, criteria for the Green School Award and Implementation of ODF status and other IEC activities.
The representative of Modern English School Eco club gave presentation of school eco-club activities and ideas like introducing Green Angel badges to inspire students for plastic free school, introducing ideas like Tradi-science and Tradi-tech, to inspire students for reuse of fountain pens to reduce use of ball pens with plastic refills etc. The school calendar on eco club activities was presented to Dr A Senthil Vel and Dr Ritesh Joshi, Scientist of the ministry. Dr Chandra Baruah, Scientific Officer of ASTEC and the State nodal officer of NSG Eco-clubs presented the criteria for Green School Award. Another school representing the State was Ajagar Valley Academy of Goalpara. Besides Assam, school eco-clubs of Sikkim, Bihar, Orissa, Karnataka, Haryana, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra etc., also attended the meeting.
