Hike in fares of commercial vehicles likely in Barak Valley
STAFF Correspondent
SILCHAR, April 12 - A hike in the fares of commercial vehicles in south Assam is on the cards. This was hinted by the Barak Valley Transport Owners’ Coordination Committee on Wednesday.

Kishore Bhattacharjee, secretary of the coordination committee, said, “At a time when prices of allied products including lubricants and spare parts are shooting up, we have no option but to press for a hike in the prices of the commercial vehicles. We have set a deadline till April 30 before the government to resolve the demands. But so far there has been no reply from the government.”

Meanwhile, Abdul Ahad, general secretary of the Truck Owners’ Association, said that a demand has been placed to reopen the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Transport which was opened here in 2013 but in a recent move, the government had shifted the office from Barak Valley.
