DHUBRI, April 12 - A 45-year-old domestic help allegedly committed suicide here on Wednesday morning, fearing that her name will not be included in the final NRC.
Sahimun Bibi, wife of Khairul Alom, of ward no. 10, Station Road here was found hanging from the ceiling of her house on Wednesday morning.
The husband of the deceased informed that she had been suffering from acute depression for the last few days due to her inability to produce her legacy data.
He further stated that Hakim Shiekh, father of the deceased, came to Dhubri from Bihar during Indira Gandhi-led Congress rule and left six children here. “Unable to find any linkage with their families in Bihar, none of the siblings of Sahimun was able to produce any proof of their legacy,” said Alom.
Alom informed that Sahimun recently received notice from the foreigners’ tribunal, but there also, she was unable to produce any document as proof of her Indian citizenship.
