CBI resumes probe into NC Hills scam
 HAFLONG, April 9 – Apprehension is running high among the government officials of several departments and even among the politicians in Dima Hasao following the resumption of the CBI enquiry into the much-publicised Rs 1000 crore N C Hills scam at a time when elections to the Autonomous Council are nearing.

 A three-member team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) camping at Haflong started its enquiry in departments like Agriculture, Social Welfare, Public Works department, Public Health Engineering, Soil Conservation, Forest, DRDA, Medical etc.

On Monday, several beneficiaries of Agriculture department reached Haflong as they were summoned by the CBI at its temporary office in the premises of old campus of Deputy Commissioner’s office, Dima Hasao. Apart from beneficiaries, the CBI also summoned the officials from Social Welfare department and Agriculture. They are facing continuous questioning by the CBI.

Though the CBI personnel were not in a mood to divulge anything in connection with the investigation, but the people of Dima Hasao believe that this time the CBI would come out with big catches.

It is learnt that the team has also investigated the finance department of Autonomous Council.

Talking to this correspondent, Gopen Langthasa of Dimaino village, a beneficiary who came to face the CBI disclosed that he was paid only six thousand rupees by the officials of Agriculture department long back against a scheme, details of which was not known to him. He got the money after signing a paper. Bulzoisuan Khelma, another beneficiary of the same department said he received Rs 25,000 only against Land reclamation scheme when he was supposed to get much more and the scheme was not completed due to non payment of total amount.

The conscious people of Dima Hasao while welcoming the CBI enquiry argued that will the CBI be able to punish the corrupt people who have gobbled the funds meant for the poor people of the district.
