‘Satyabhama killers held’

 IMPHAL, April 9 - Police claimed to have arrested three persons in connection with the killing of Junior Research Fellow of Pathology department, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Ningombam Satyabhama which rocked the state.

 The arrested persons include deceased Satyabhama’s reported boyfriend T Thesis alias Aboy alias James (27) of Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai and his friends Th Jibon (27) of Irilbung Mayai Leikai and Ksh Biju alias Holendro (28) of Irilbung Bazaar all under Imphal East district, according to DGP Manipur Y Joykumar Singh.

Briefing media persons in a hurriedly convened press conference in Imphal, DGP Joykumar said one Maruti car(AS01-0397) belongs to Jibon and a two wheeler vehicle Mahindra Rodeo ( MN01-Y 6310) belongs to Biju have also been recovered in connection with the incident.

Biju, a close friend of James, also confessed that he committed the crime after calling out the deceased girl from home in the wee hours of April 3, the police chief claimed. Police arrested Biju and Jibon while James surrendered to the police.

“In view of the public outcry and simultaneous agitation, the police is compelled to spell out the development of the investigation”, Joykumar said. The arrested accused persons have been remanded for 15 days in the police custody after producing before the court.

Meanwhile on hearing the news, angry locals stormed the Irilbung area in Imphal east district in the afternoon and dismantled four houses belongs to the three arrested persons besides a neighbour’s house before being torched by the mob.

It may be noted that the Joint Action Committee(JAC) formed against the brutal killing of N Satyabhama had even called indefinite general strike in protest against the killing from Saturday. But it has been relaxed following a meeting of the JAC on April 8 midnight.

On the poor road conditions, he pointed out that along with the deteriorating road condition, the mushrooming of building constructions have also obstructed road expansion in and around the district which has led to traffic congestion.

MLA from 4 Ghaspani I A/C, Jacob Zhimomi, in his short speech said as a debutant in politics it is not easy for him to meet the aspirations of the people. He, however, exuded confidence that with the active support and advice of the members present he would be able to do his utmost for the benefit of the district.

Earlier, Vice- Chairmen & Dimapur Deputy Commissioner N. Hushili Sema while welcoming the newly elected members said that the district was fortunate to have a mix of matured, experienced and young, dynamic leaders to lead the people of the district.

The Department of Public Health Engineering (PHED) presented a power point on developmental activities taken by the department in the district.
