Police-politician nexus with syndicates
STAFF Reporter
GUWAHATI, April 9 – The Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) today said that those running the syndicate operate in tandem with a section of police, bureaucrats and even politicians and the investigators must expose them to get the desired results.

The chamber said that it was important to go to the root of the problem and merely tightening the noose on those upfront would yield no results, as the nexus is deep- rooted.

“Why only coal, fish or paan, those running the syndicates of essential commodities like onion, potato and mustard oil, also need to be brought to book,” said Rupam Goswami, president of ACC while talking to media persons here today.

The ACC feels that until and unless the big fishes are caught, the arrest of one or two persons would make no sense.

“The traders would always keep their margin of profit whatever the price remains. It is the people running the syndicate who put an inflated price tag much to the discomfort of the end consumers,” Goswami opined.
