GUWAHATI, April 7 – The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) today handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh to All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) for holding camps.
IP Baruah, NEEPCO Director (Personnel), handed over the cheque to AATA president Subhash Das at AATA Chachal complex here. Baruah later addressing the media said their organisation, through the Corporate Social Responsibility, has been providing financial assistance to various social organisations for development work.
In sports also they are committed to fund organisations in holding tournaments, coaching camps, etc., in the entire north-eastern region.
AATA president thanked NEEPCO for such a gesture and hoped they will be able to organise high standard coaching camps out of this amount.
AATA secretary Raktim Saikia said that they have been organising year-long coaching camps at Chachal complex, and also at different affiliated clubs and training centres throughout the State under ITF Level-I coaches.
He revealed that at present the State has 18 AITA level II (ITF level-I) coaches who are imparting coaching throughout the State.
The State tennis body is organising six advanced coaching programmes of 7 to 10 days under a trainer of national repute, said Saikia.
He further revealed that the State has been able to produce players like Bijoy Kumar Mohanty and Parikshit Somani who have claimed top titles in the national circuit at junior level.
