MANGALDAI, April 6 – Lakhimpur is in control against Kokrajhar on the first day of the JK Barua U-19 Inter District Cricket Tournament semifinal.

Electing to bat first at the Mangaldai Stadium here today, the Kokrajhar batsmen never looked comfortable against the decent bowling attack of Lakhimpur as Jitumani Kalita (7/23) ripped through the Kokrajhar batting line-up. They were forced to fold their first innings at a meagre total of 78 runs in 49.2 overs. Only Papan Bhowmick (26) and Biraj Kr Paul (20) could put some runs on the board for Kokrajhar.

In reply, Lakhimpur were 59 for the loss of four. They are now 19 runs short of Lakhimpur’s first innings with six wickets in hand.

Guwahati beaten: Earlier, Silchar defeated Guwahati by 28 runs at Biswanath Chariali yesterday and qualified for semifinals. In the low scoring match, Guwahati scored 67 in reply to Silchar’s first innings total of 120.

In the second innings, Silchar were all out for 73 and Guwahati were all out for 103.
