GUWAHATI, April 4 - Governor PB Acharya has condoled the death of Gandhian and social worker Hema Kakati who passed away at Sarania Ashram here yesterday.
In a message, the Governor said that Hema Kakati had an indefatigable spirit and had made immense contributions as a social worker. He added that she had devoted her life to the cause of the Kasturba National Memorial Trust and its mission.
The Governor also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved members of the family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Acharya also paid his tributes to Upendranath Brahma on the latter’s birth anniversary today.
Upendranath Brahma, popularly known as the ‘Bodofa’ or the ‘Father of the Bodos’, was the most powerful Bodo tribal leader of the 20th century.
The Governor recalled meeting Brahma when the latter had gone for treatment of cancer to Mumbai. Brahma had also visited the Governor’s Mumbai residence.
The Governor has appealed to the people to follow the late Brahma’s vision for Bodoland.
