Cheiraoba celebrated in Manipur
 IMPHAL, March 31 – Manipur on Monday celebrated Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba, the New Year of the Manipuris across the State. Cheiraoba marks the beginning of a new cycle of life in Meitei calendar.Praying to the indigenous Gods by offering the seasonal flowers, fruits and dishes, traditional feasting and then climbing of nearby hillock etc. in the afternoon mark the occasion.

Important hill ranges or hillocks in and around the Imphal town, particularly the Thangmeiband Cheiraoching and Singjamei Chinga were jam-packed with children, youths and family members on Monday afternoon.

Manipur Governor Gurbachan VK Duggal, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Inspector General of Assam Rifles Major General Rajeev Chopra and others have extended warm greetings and sincere goodwill to the people on the auspicious occasion of Meitei New Year Sajibu Cheiraoba. In their separate greeting, they said Sajibu Nongma Panba marks end of the previous year and the onset of the New Year. On this auspicious occasion, youngsters seek the blessings of elders for a happy long life. With the advent of a New Year, people prays that the festival heralds an era of peace, progress and prosperity in the region and enhances the spirit of unity, cohesiveness and brotherhood among the wcommunities of the State of Manipur. Dr Th Kishan Foundation (DTKF) and Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) also wish the people of the State a very happy and a prosperous Cheiraoba.
