Arunachal Govt employees launch indefinite strike
ITANAGAR, March 20 - Arunachal Pradesh Government employees under the banner of Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) today launched a non-cooperation movement against the State Government, in the form of indefinite pen/tools down strike protesting the government’s alleged apathy towards meeting their charter of demands.

Prominent among their wish list were the demands for enhancement of State Government employees retirement age from existing 58 to 60 years and withdrawal/modification of NOC system in matters of employees’ promotion and retirement.

Their other demands were grant of transport allowance & children education allowance, restoration of lateral entry system in Arunachal Pradesh Civil Services (Entry Grade), implementation of all India LTC rules & medical attendance rules, and payment of ad-hoc bonus to non-gazetted employees.

Gonya Riba, general secretary of the employees’ apex body, informed that impact of first day’s pen/tools down strike was “positive” as no Govt employee performed duties on the first day of the agitation today. In districts too, all the employees are in solidarity with CoSAAP and they abstained from duties today, he said.

The modus operandi of the agitating employees is that they will turn up for their respective offices/workplaces and record their attendance but will not discharge their duties. However, employees of essential services departments have been exempted from the purview of the strike and they will perform their duties by wearing black badges, Riba said.
