Dikshit takes up NE students issue Spl Correspondent NEW DELHI, Oct 30 Alarmed by the increase in incidents of attacks on students of the North Eastern region, Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit has convened a meeting of all stakeholders including senior government officials to resolve the problems being faced in the national capital. The Chief Minister said this while addressing a rally organised by the North East Students Organisation at Jantar Mantar here this afternoon. The rally also attended by AICC general secretary, Oscar Fernandes and Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjay was called to protest the recent incidents of violence including molestations and racial harassment against the students and youths hailing from the region.
The Chief Minister of Delhi said she is going to convene a meeting either on Monday or Tuesday, which would be attended by high officials of Delhi Government, Delhi Police and other stake holders including representatives of the student community and MPs of North-East to discuss the problems being faced by them.
On being told that Delhi Police often misbehaves and refuses to register complaints, Dikshit lobbed the ball into the court of the Home Ministry. Delhi Police comes under the control of the Home Ministry and this issue should be taken up with Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram.
