Workshop on taming rivers REPORTER TINSUKIA, Oct 27 – NEEDS, which is voluntary organisation of the North East, organised a two-day workshop on, ‘Taming, the rivers and its severe consequences’ from October 10 at the Fishery Training Centre here.
Altogether, 70 representatives from Jorhat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sadiya, Kakopather, Dhala, Makum and Philobari participated in the workshop. Girin Chetia, director of NEEDS conducted the workshop which was coordinated by Niraj Waglikar and Dr DK Mishra, member of Kalpabrish and activist, water management Barmukti, Abhijan, Bihar respectively.
The brief inaugural programme on Oct 10 was addressed by Akhil Baruah of NEEDS. It was followed by the keynote address delivered by Suresh Gogoi, president of NEEDS. Other programmes included theatic discussion on power for all by 2012, its negative impact in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, group discussion on ‘what should be done in the present context’ and ‘streamlining strategic intervention”. The workshop ended with a press meet on the said topic.
Best award : Pranati Sharma of Tinsukia, presently working at Gangabichan Chaukhani HS School secured best award in the National Teacher Science Conference titled, ‘Understanding Planet Earth-2009’ for her project named, ‘Man vs elephant– conflict and probable solution’ under the subject, ‘Impact of Human intervention’.
It was held at the Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar from October 1 to 4. It was organised by NCSTC of New Delhi and catalysed by Rastriya Bigyan Ebam Prayogic Sanchar Parisad.
A total number of 600 projects were presented by teacher scientist representatives of 30 states comprising 310 teacher participants.
She was also felicitated at Bhopal in 2003 and Ujjayani in 2004 for her project presentation at the National Teacher Science Congress.
