Raje resigns
 NEW DELHI, Oct 23 – After defying directives of the party high command for nearly three months, Vasundhara Raje today resigned as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly. She handed over her resignation to senior party leader LK Advani. – PTI

Surrender
 DIBRUGARH Oct 23 – Two ULFA men, Huntu Changmai alias Bijoy Bailung and Pranab Duarah alias Simanta Gogoi, surrendered before Dibrugarh DC GD Tripathi and laid down a 3.2 pistol, a 3.8 revolver and a radio set last evening. The ULFA cadres belonged to the ‘Bravo’ Company of the ULFA’s 28 battalion. – Staff Correspondent.

Bandh call
 BONGAIGAON, Oct 23 – A 12-hour Assam bandh was called on October 26 following an attack by unidentified miscreants on All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) activists on a Maruti van last evening at Runikhata under Barugaon PS in Chirang district. Three of the occupants of the van were hospitalised following the attack. – Correspondent

Nalbari bandh
 NALBARI, Oct 23 – A spontaneous and uncalled down-to-dusk Nalbari district bandh paralysed normal life in the district for the second consecutive day today. The bandh, however, failed to affect normal life in Nalbari town. – Correspondent

2 ultras shot
 GOSSAIGAON, Oct 23 – Kokrajhar police today shot dead two hardcore NDFB militants at Singhimari village under Guma Reserved Forest under Gossaigaon PS. Police recovered two Chinese pistols, hand made grenades and other live ammunition from the spot – Correspondent

 BARPETA, Oct 23: Police today arrested four youths on extortion charges. The accused were collecting money in the name of NDEB, in Barpeta town. – Correspondent
