AASU protest over flood relief
STAFF Reporter
GUWAHATI, Oct 22 – The members of the local committees of the All Dhemaji District Students’ Union (ADDSU) of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will hang the effigy of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on October 24 in protest against the failure of the State G0vernment to provide relief and rehabilitation to the flood victims of the district. In a statement here, the ADDSU today said that though thousands of families were affected by floods this year, the Government paid no attention to provide them relief and rehabilitation. This is despite the agitations launched by the ADDSU.

The damage caused by the floods in the areas like Kapahtoli, Nepalikhuti, Gariakhana, Pathlial, Kochgaon, Norowathan, Demu, Simenmukh, Rongpuria etc has not been assessed so far. The authorities have no comprehensive information on the damage caused by the floods in the district.

The ADDSU has also said in a separate statement that its members would tonsure their heads on October 29 in support of the demands for completion of the repair of breached dykes within the month of November, permanent solution to the flood and erosion problem of the district and to bring an end to the corruption going on in the Rural Development Department office of the district.
