Rs 31.73 lakh for rural roads under NREGA in Lakhimpur Correspondent NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Oct 11 The Lakhimpur district authority has released Rs 31.73 lakh for development of rural roads for Telahi Developmental Block under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) for Assam 2008-09. Rs 10.65 lakh has been sanctioned for the brick soling of the Gohain Tekela PWD road to Majguri under the Telahi block and Rs 21.04 lakh has been sanctioned for brick soling of road from Hoka Chapari Tiniali to Hoka Chaporigaon. Already 70 per cent of the amount has been released by Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner, Jayant Narlikar to the Block Development Officer, Telahi.
In another move, the Lakhimpur district administration has decided to grow Bodo rice in three thousand hectares of land in order to minimise the losses incurred to the kharif crops during this years flood. The Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur Jayant Narlikar has asked the District Agriculture Department to provide seeds of rabi crops, irrigation and tractors to the affected peasants of the district in the meeting of District Development Council held recently. DC Narlikar asked the PWD engineers to cut 2 per cent of money from the contractors if they failed to complete works within the stipulated period of time. He also asked the District Social Welfare Department to maintain transparency in the interview programmes for the appointment of Anganwadi workers. Narlikar also warned the department of strict administrative actions if cases are lodged in the High Court concerning interview of the appointment in Lakhimpur. He also asked the fishery officials to select 10 entrepreneurs from every block for fishery development in a scientific manner.
