Work on geo tube dyke begins: Stalled work on the Rs 142.42 crores Maatmara Geo Tube embankment project restarted on October 1 with a revised format by the Malaysian firm Emaskeira. The work was restarted by the senior project manager of Emaskeira in the presence of superintendent engineer, Water Resources, Lakhimpur, Ajit Baruah and Tapodhan Das, executive engineer, Water Resources, Dhakuakhana with filling of sands in the geo tubes.

It may be recalled that works on the Maatmara embankment of Brahmaputra in Dhakuakhana has been marred by controversies with delay in releasing funds and slow pace of work which attracted the ire of the State’s Water Resources Minister Prithvi Majhi. Flood water of Brahmaputra disrupted the construction work of geo-tubes in Maatmara on July this year for which a revised format with advanced technical assistance was needed. Now with the arrival and use of some new technologies the works are on in Maatmara by Emaskeira with the use of 37 pumps to fill the geo-tubes with sands. The 5 km long and 7.5 metres high embankment with breadth of 6 metres would be completed by the Malaysian firm by March 2010.
