No breakthrough in Nalbari blasts case yet CORRESPONDENT NALBARI, Nov 23 – The Nalbari police is yet to make any breakthrough into yesterday’s twin blasts which rocked Nalbari killing seven persons and injuring 53 innocent people ahead of ULFA’s protest day slated for November 29. Meanwhile, the Nalbari police has picked up two youths, Bikash Deka (Bolowa) and Apurba Rajbangshi (Hahtali), this morning and interrogating them at Nalbari sadar police station. However, their involvement in the blasts is yet to be traced.
On the other hand, two persons injured in the blasts, Dr Hari Chandra Kalita and Bhagawan Talukdar, who were undergoing treatment at Nalbari Swahid Mukunda Kakati Civil Hospital were today referred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Now 50 people have been undergoing treatment at GMCH.
A tense situation now prevails in the Nalbari town. The normally busy Thana Chowk, the site of the blasts, wore a deserted look this evening.
Meanwhile, the Nalbari district unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today observed a dawn-to-dusk Nalbari district bandh, which paralysed normal life. During the bandh period, all modes of vehicular traffic were off the roads, including on NH-31. In the morning hours, some AASU picketers damaged a good number of trucks plying on the highway. The government offices, business establishments, educational and financial institutions remained closed. The Nalbari district unit of AJYCP today observed ‘Black Day’ hoisting black flags at public places protesting against the brutal act. The AJYCP will also form a human chain in Nalbari town.
Meanwhile, AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya has called upon the people to fight unitedly to uproot the terrorism from the soil of Assam.
Dr Bhattacharyya, who visited the district following the blasts, told this correspondent that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has miserably failed to protect the lives of innocent people in the State. There is no existence of a government in the State, he said. Therefore, the people should come out in protest against the failure of the government, he said. “Chief Minister Gogoi is very weak in handling terrorism”, the AASU adviser added. He called upon militant outfits to respect people’s sentiments and sit on the negotiation table. He also called upon the government to respect the people’s wishes for peace talks between ULFA and the government.
