BSF fires at smugglers Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Nov 21 – Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) were forced to open fire to prevent a group of miscreants near the international border in Dhubri district from smuggling out cattle heads to Bangladesh. BSF sources said that the troops of the BSF witnessed movement of miscreants along with cattle heads near the international border in Kalaicharbari area in Dhubri district last night and when challenged, the miscreants did not stop, forcing the BSF men to open fire. However, the miscreants managed to escape under the cover of darkness and the BSF men recovered cattle worth Rs 32,000.
Sources said that cattle smuggling has become a major menace in the Assam-Bangladesh border and within the last 24 hours, the personnel of the border guarding force seized cattle worth Rs 27 lakh in the Assam-Meghalaya frontier.
BSF sources expressed the view that all the stakeholders must play a positive role to deal with cattle smuggling.
