AGP bid to unite regional forces STAFF Reporter GUWAHATI, Nov 18 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today decided to make efforts to bring all the regional forces of the State onto a common platform. This decision was taken in a meeting of the steering committee of the party today. The AGP steering committee also discussed the objections raised by some of the district units regarding the electoral understanding with the BJP and the probability of forging understanding with the Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF). However, the AGP did not take any decision in this regard.
Meanwhile, AGP spokesman Atul Bora said that the party president and Leader of the Opposition in State Assembly, Chandra Mohan Patowary, has been entrusted with the responsibility of holding talks with all anti-Congress parties to launch a mass movement against the failures of the Government. The meeting of the Opposition is likely to be held by the end of this month.
Bora said that the AGP would launch a movement in protest against the failure of the Government to control rise in prices of essential commodities and to build up a mass movement against corruption at all levels of administration. He said that as the first phase of the movement, members of the AGP would bring out processions in all the Assembly constituencies of the State from November 25 to December 9 and submit memorandums to the Deputy Commissioners, Subdivisional Officers and Circle Officers.
The AGP also expressed concern at the deterioration of the law-and-order situation in the BTAD area and called upon the Government to take immediate steps to protect the life and property of the people.
