ACTA members stage stir
STAFF Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 6 – Members of the Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) today staged a four-hour sit-in demonstration from 11 am in the Higher Education Directorate campus here in protest against the failure of the State Government to remove their grievances. Members of college units of the association also staged similar demonstrations inside their respective college campuses. An ACTA press release here stated that presidents and general secretaries of its zonal committees and representatives of its college units also took part in the demonstration here today, besides the members of its central executive committee.

The ACTA later submitted a memorandum to the Director of Higher Education on the grievances of its members. The grievances of the ACTA members include only partial release of the arrear against the revised pay scales.of 1996, non-release of the arrear against the DA since 2000 and non-release of the grants-in-aid to almost all the grant-in-aid colleges for 2001,2002 and 2003.

Absence of any service rule since the provincialisation of the grants-in-aid colleges in 2005 and the failure of the State Government to approve and implement the latest revised pay scales of the UGC since 2006 have also been mentioned by the ACTA as the grievances of its members.
