Indukalpa Hazarika passes away Staff reporter GUWAHATI, Nov 4 Noted film personality Indukalpa Hazarika, who was unwell for some time, passed away around 3.40 am at Good Health Hospital today. He was laid to rest this afternoon after a large number of admirers paid their last tributes. He was 67. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has mourned the death of Hazarika and remembered his legacy not just to Assamese cinema but also to the larger cultural scene. Gogoi described Hazarikas demise as a great loss to the State.
Apart from being a cinematographer of distinction, whose contribution to Assamese films was immense and his talent recognised in national award winning films such as Sandhya Rag and Anirban, he directed two films Manab Aru Danab (1971) and Niyoti (1978).
Hazarika was born on November 5, 1941 at Dibrugarh and did his initial education in Shillong. Later he obtained a diploma in motion picture photography from Film and Television Institute, Pune.
He did the cinematography in several path-breaking films of eminent filmmakers such as Bhabendranath Saikia and Siva Prasad Thakur. In the later part of his career, he was the Chief Cameraman and Floor in-Charge of Jyoti Chitraban.
Hazarkia was honoured with several awards, significant among which were lifetime achievement awards by various cultural and film societies in 2006-07. The late Hazarika was a jury member in a number of important film competitions.
He lives his wife Abha Hazarika, a daughter, two sons and a host of other relatives.
