Workshop on total solar eclipse at Mangaldoi

 MANGALDOI, June 25 – A workshop on the historic total solar eclipse (TSE) scheduled to be held on July 22 was arranged on June 23 at the Youth Club here. It was attended by 22 teachers of schools from undivided Darrang with two of them from the college level. It was inaugurated by B Medhi, principal in-charge of Mangaldoi College was and attended by Madhav Sarma, principal JNB, Kalaigaon, Major Rajak Chaudhury of 65 Field Regiment, Chapai camp, UN Deka, secretary, Pragjyotish Amateur Astronomers’ Association , Dr Khalilur Rahman, HoD (retd.) Physics, Mangaldoi College.

Dr Budhin Hazarika of Mangaldoi College along with Jayanta Das, conveners of the workshop anchored the proceedings. Dr Rahman presented a talk on the perspective of the total solar eclipse with audio-visual displays while UN Deka, himself a physicist and researcher in the field, spoke in details about its history.

Deka also presented a audio-visual display of the TSE and said that eclipse, total or non-total has no adverse impact on the eatables contrary to customary belief.

He revealed that ascending and descending nodes (Rahu and Ketu) are non-existing planets and the question of their effect either way does not arise. He also added that telescope or binocular or X-ray plates (used) should not be used in viewing total solar eclipse.
