Awareness meet on total solar eclipse held GUWAHATI, July 8 Luit Society, Jaipur, a Guwahati-based NGO organised an awareness campaign recently on the total solar eclipse that is going to occur on July 22 and which will be visible from the State. This was stated in a press release.
Nearly 350 students of Lalshing & Premier Academy were present in the programme that was held at Lalshing Academy High School premises in the presence of a large gathering of local residents.
Deep Bhatta, the secretary general of the NGO said that the last total solar eclipse visible from the State occurred way back in 1840 and the next one is 900 years away. He said that there is need for an awareness campaign to stimulate the publics interest in this celestial spectacle and they should view the eclipse through safe methods. Bhatta said that myths and superstitions keep the people away from viewing such rare phenomenon and awareness in this regard would help people become conscious and develop a scientific temperament.
The meeting was presided over by Umesh Sarma, headmaster, Lalshing Academy High School. A few other teachers were also present on the occasion.
