Farmers’ agri educational tour concludes

 DIBRUGARH, Jan 28 – The agricultural educational tour to northern India organised for the Assam farmers by 318 Field Regiment of Dah division of the Indian Army concluded with an evaluation programme at Sarojini under Tingkhong PS.

The agricultural tour, which primarily included attending agricultural training at Solan University in Himachal Pradesh was flagged off by the 318 Field Regiment from Korangani on January 11. The twelve farmers from the districts of Dibrugarh and Sivasagar and accompanying Agriculture officers who attended the tour narrated their experiences during the evaluation programme. Reliving their enriching experiences, the farmers brought out how much they had learnt during the programme and lauded the efforts of 318 Field Regiment of Dah Division which had organized the tour.

The farmers keenly participated in the learning programme and clarified their various queries during this tenure, according to the organizers. They were taught about the advancements in technology that have been made in various fields of agriculture. Practical classes were also organized during the tour when the farmers were taken to green houses, cultivation and experimental centres of the university. Classes were conducted on Food Processing Technology, Post-Harvest Technology, Soil and Water Conservation, green house technology, Plant Protection of Vegetables and Preparation of Nursery Seeding. An excursion to nearby tourist destinations was also organized for the farmers including Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, Shimla and Kufri.

In the concluding ceremony, which was also attended by Anup Phukan, MLA, Tingkhong, the farmers were given certificates awarded by the Solan University and books on Fruit Production and Conservation and Package of Practices for Vegetable Crops. The team was also given shawls and traditional caps from Himachal Pradesh as mementoes of their enriching experience. As promised, 318 Field Regiment also gave away agricultural tools to the farmers.

Congratulating the farmers on their successful trip, Col Ravinder Singh Kahlon of Dah Division asked the team to share their experiences and their new found knowledge with other farmers so that more people could benefit from what they had learnt. Addressing the gathering, Anup Phukan, MLA, Tingkhong also congratulated the farmers on their learning experience and lauded the initiative taken by 318 Field Regiment of Dah Division to organize such a unique tour which had not only taught newer technology to the farmers but also given them a rich exposure to the country.
